2022 in Review

As the Earth races around the sun to complete its annual orbit, it’s time to bid farewell to 2022.

This year, I focused on networking and improving my understanding of how to run an author business. And while I’m much more comfortable with the mechanics of producing and publishing a book, I’ve learned how little I know about marketing and promotion.

2022 Highlights

  • Published Graphite and Turbulence, the second book in the Elemental Artist series.
  • Barnes and Noble picked Oil and Dust as their Nook Serial Read for March.
  • The King County Library System picked Oil and Dust as the statewide winner of the Washington Author Project (regional contest of the Indie Author Project).
  • Oil and Dust was picked as the 12TH Place Winner in the 2022 Book Blogger’s Novel of the Year contest.
  • Attended 3 in-person writing events: Rainforest 2022, the Better-Faster Workshop, and 20Books Vegas 2022.
  • Wrote a weekly blog post (on schedule, again!) to share what I was learning and the mistakes I made.
  • Joined an in-person writing group.
  • Updated my website’s focus and theme.
  • Sent out 12 monthly newsletters.
  • Drafted and revised Charcoal and Smoke, the third book in the Elemental Artist series.
  • Read 85 books.
  • Submitted The Last Wishes Granted by Miranda Bennett to an anthology (and was accepted!).
  • Set up an online store to offer direct sales.
  • Increased website traffic by 117%

Another busy year

It’s not easy to juggle writing with a full-time job. But the feedback I’ve received from readers has been enormously motivating. I’m so grateful for all of you! Thank you for your comments, encouragement, and reviews. You’ve made my 2022 terrific.

Happy New Year to you all, and here’s to a wonderful 2023!
