Goodbye to 2020
A brand new year lies before us like a blinking cursor on an empty page. Before I dive into the next chapter, I wanted to take a moment to review my story so far. How to even start? 2020 was an eye-opening year for a lot of reasons, but instead of thinking about all of the crazy events that happened, I’m specifically focussing on what I accomplished as a writer. I’ve heard the year described as the ‘Great Pause’ and I personally took that to heart; using the time and space the pandemic provided to really think about what was important to me and what I wanted to focus my time and energy on.
2020 was a year in which I:
- Found a core group of beta readers and got used to getting feedback on my work.
- Beta read for other writers. All in all, I read 14 novels and 3 short stories for other writers.
- Focused on reading indie books and writing reviews on Goodreads and Amazon.
- Renewed my focus on my fantasy book series
- Learned about and entered the Pitch Wars competition
- Participated in video chats with writers
- Completed my first official NaNoWriMo and wrote “The End” on my first middle-grade novel
- Wrote several short stories
- Had a short story published
That’s a lot! In the process of doing the above, I’ve made a lot of friendships, learned a ton about the craft and business of writing, and am starting 2021 with an intent to really focus on my writing. Whatever 2021 brings, by pursuing my writing, I know that I’ll have a full year! Happy New Year to you.
